Decorating Dilemma: How To Create A Great Home When You Don'T Know A Thing About Interior Design

Do you envy people who seem to have a natural talent for taking any room and transforming it into one that looks like it could appear on the cover of a magazine? Decorating doesn't come naturally for all people, but that doesn't mean you can't have a home that's lovely and inviting. Modern technology, along with books and magazines, makes it possible to learn a lot about interior design without taking time-consuming classes or spending a fortune on resources.

Take advantage of interior designing podcasts

One of the easiest ways to learn about interior design is through the power of a podcast. They contain a wealth of information and cover a wide variety of topics related to home decorating. Whether you want to learn about selecting paint colors or arranging furniture to enhance the appearance of a room, you will likely find a podcast that discusses that specific topic.

Many podcasts are free. You can subscribe to the ones you like, so you don't have to worry about missing an episode. Podcasts are great for multitasking, as you can listen to them while you exercise, work around the house, or in the car when commuting to and from work.

The only bad thing about interior designing podcasts is deciding which ones are best. Start by listening to a few at a time and make note of the ones that seem most useful. Once you've listened to a dozen or more, subscribe to only the ones you enjoy and find helpful.

Visit your local library

Take advantage of your local library and check out several books on interior decorating. Set aside an afternoon and look through the books to get ideas. Take plenty of notes and don't forget to use your cell phone to snap pictures of rooms you find attractive and want to incorporate into your own home design projects.

Subscribe to a few home decorating magazines

The cost of a magazine subscription is a small expense considering all you get. The best thing about interior design magazines is the fact that you are always getting the latest information on decorating and design trends. Theses informative magazines arrive in your mailbox monthly or bimonthly and will help you keep up to date on the newest design themes along with tips for decorating your own living space.

You don't have to have a degree in interior design to have a beautiful home. By using interior design podcasts, interior decorating books, and home design magazines, you can create a living space that looks like a professional designed it. With your newly acquired knowledge of interior design, your friends may even be calling you to help them with their decorating dilemmas.
